For the more intrepid traveler, a visit to Vietnam is in order. This is especially so if you are tired of the common Southeast Asian destinations like Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore. Try something different for a change, and a trip to Vietnam beckons.
For the older generation, Vietnam still evokes memories of a two decade military conflict between communist and non-communist Vietnam. For this reason, they already have a negative perception on the country and they are reluctant to travel there. Fortunately, this is not the case with younger travelers, especially the more adventurous ones.
In fact, you will hardly find traces of the latest war when you visit Vietnam. Upon arriving there, you will encounter a country wherein the traditional and the modern co-exist. It is not surprising to find the best hotels in Vietnam interspersed with old-fashion buildings.
There are areas where you will witness farmers tending their field using buffalos. But you will also find modern skyscrapers and a bustling metropolis in Ho Chi Minh City, which is also known as Saigon.

More than anything else, Vietnam is known for its natural beauty and ancient ruins. If you touch down in Ho Chi Minh City, there are a lot of interesting places nearby that you can visit.
You can make arrangements to go to Tay Ninh Mountain or the Cao Dai temples. But if you are after age-old temples, palaces, and monuments, you are advised to visit the the historic city of Hue.
From the 17th to the 19th century, Hue was the capital of Imperial Vietnam. For this reason it contains numerous ancient structures, which prompted UNESCO to declare it as a World Heritage Site.
When you are in this city, it is as if you are in a different time altogether. And when in Hue, do not hesitate to try out their native cuisine. It is one of the best in Vietnam.
Vietnam may not be a popular tourist destination. But if you are looking for a different travel experience, it should be given serious consideration.
